Running for Life, Raising in Memory

Commercial Expert Team Members Raise £355 for Cancer Research
On Sunday 19th June, two of our brilliant commercial finance specialists Tracey Barnes and Abigail Taylor, took part in the Darlington Race for Life in a bid to raise funds to support vital cancer research.
It was a first for both team members, who have recently embarked on a mission to complete numerous runs for charity, starting with the Race for Life.
The duo were able to smash their target of £200, raising a total of £355 – a brilliant effort for their first event.
Commenting on their success, our Director Mike Coates said: “I’m so proud of Tracey and Abigail for completing their first Race for Life. It’s a brilliant achievement for each of them and it’s wonderful to see our team members continuing to give back to charity outside of our internal charity efforts.”
The Race for Life is a series of fundraising events, organised by charity Cancer Research UK. They involve running, jogging or walking a 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre or ‘Pretty Muddy’ course and raising sponsorship for doing so. The money raises funds for cancer research in all 200 types of cancer.
Tracey and Abigail chose the Race for Life as their first run due to Tracey sadly losing both of her parents to Cancer and seeing multiple friends battle the dreadful disease.
Commenting, she said: “I sadly lost both my parents to cancer and so the charity personally means a lot to me. I believe it’s important to give back to charities like Cancer Research and to push ourselves to do more in memory of those who have suffered.
“I’ve been desperately trying to enjoy running over the last few years and so it seemed like the perfect challenge – raising funds and pushing myself. I’m honoured that Abigail chose to embark on this mission with me.
“The day itself was brilliant – really well organised and relaxed. There was no pressure to race, despite it being called the Race for Life. It was simply a group of people passionate about raising funds for Cancer Research getting together in memory of their loved ones to do some exercise.”
What’s next for our runners? Tracey intends to continue completing weekly Park Runs in preparation for her next challenge – soon to be revealed.
