Matt has a rich and varied lending background that has included areas as diverse as property, sports and media and commercial litigation and has over 15 years of client relationship experience.
He has been involved with funding law firms in general and litigation in particular since 2010. He pioneered Investec Bank’s entry into third party litigation funding obtaining board approval for a funding line of £100m dedicated to complex commercial cases. In doing so he was responsible for the origination, structuring, due diligence, execution and ongoing management of all funds from the bank’s perspective.
More recently he has headed up the origination and structuring function for SpectraLegal and was responsible for establishing SpectraLegal as a credible niche funder in legal financing. He spearheaded the execution of successful strategies to provide specialist, off-balance sheet funding solutions for specific consumer litigation areas and secured a collaboration with various leading global insurers to insure the funding/client liabilities for such cases. At the time of writing, c.130,000+ cases had been funded by SpectraLegal, and this structure enabled Matt to diversify the company into new claim areas.
Matt is comfortable with the intellectual challenges of generating innovative but prudent and secure solutions to client requirements. His experience has taught him that “one size does not fit all” but that few problems are insoluble, and his primary objective is the identification and implementation of those solutions. This inevitably requires a close client relationship and the building of those relationships he regards as one of the pleasures of the position.
